Gran Canaria hosts within its territory a faithful representation of the American West. The contrast between the island’s desert aridity and tropical lushness serves as the backdrop for this photographic study, which seeks to unravel the layers of meaning woven into this singular place.
Following the path of previous projects on landscape-territory-tourism, such as Aquapark, the Sioux City series explores the interaction between a Wild West theme park and the island’s vernacular surroundings, revealing how seemingly disparate elements coexist in harmony.
This project raises questions about the nature of cultural identity and the adaptability of recreational spaces. Can a Wild West theme park find its home on an island like Gran Canaria?
